VMware

I have 2 same esxi servers. One has double cpu performance. Any idea why?

So i have 2 HP Proliant DL360p Gen8 servers with 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v2 @ 2.80GHz each. Hyperthreading active on both. When i start windows srv vm and start performance test (from https://www.cpubenchmark.net/) I get 2161points on esx1 and 3926 on esx2. Ram speed is triple on esx02 vs esx01. They have both all 24ram slots filled, esx01 has bigger sticks, so they should be a bit slower but not this much.

The vm runs on the same iscsi nas 10gb that is connected to both esxi.
Any idea what could be causing this?

  1. Is it the only VM running when you’re doing testing?

Also have you configured the power management as per best practice? You could have a host boosting CPU and one trying to conserve CPU.

  2. Swap the dimms between the two boxes if you can. If the slower one hits the same numbers as the fast one after the swap, then your memory speed is a bottle neck for the CPU.
