Video card passthrough woes.

I’m running ESXi 6.5 on a 2012 Mac Pro. I’ve added an Nvidia GTX 1070 Ti to the system and wanted to configure it as a passthrough device to my Windows 10 VM so I could RIP BluRay discs using HEVC with Handbrake.

My problem is that after I enable passthrough, the status stays at “Enabled / Needs Reboot” after rebooting, and persists in that state despite multiple reboots. Also, ESXi reports that the card is a GeForce 9500 GT, and not a GTX 1070 Ti.

Any thoughts?

  1. Need to add this to the .vmx file:

    hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = “FALSE”

    I’ve passed a 1070 through into both Windows and Linux on ESXi 6.7 without any issues.
